Henry John BAGLIN was born in 1871 in St Saviour. Apparently, Henry went to sea, but didn't like the life and so he jumped ship at Swansea. As he was being pursued, he ran between two railway trucks and lost an arm as a result. Ashamed of the disgrace, he changed his name to Bailey. He died in a workhouse. James Edward BAGLIN was born on 30 July 1864 in Keynsham, Bristol. In 1881 he was a Market Gardener's Labourer. James Edward was recorded as just Edward in the 1881 census aged 16 yrs. In 1881 he was living at Staple Hill Road, Mangotsfield, Glos. which is now part of Bristol. He was staying with his grandfather, John Lovell for whom he was working.

Some speculation: I think that Edward may have had a son in 1882 and named him Edward John though I have not found reference to him in the BMD indexes - he then emigrated to USA leaving his son behind. Edward John then married Lily and had a son of their own in 1906 and named him Albert Henry. Edward senior then came back to the UK and took his son and grandson back to the USA on the SS Philadelphia, arriving at Ellis Island, New York on 31 July 1909. The Passenger Lists record that Edward John, Lily and Albert Henry were all born in Bristol. By 1890 Edward had emigrated to USA and married Agusta, who was born in Germany, 19th January 1871. Edward became a US Citizen on 30 September 1890, the associated papers being issued in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Agusta became a USC through her husband. It would appear that Edward returned to England with his son Edward John, Daughter-in-law Lily and grandson Albert Henry.

In 1921 Edward and Agusta sailed from San Francisco on the SS Hawkeye State arriving New York on 17 September. Their residence was in Portland, Oregon. Parents: James Poulton BAGLIN and Caroline LOVELL.

James, a huge man worked as a Meat Porter at one of the London Markets. He suffered badly from epilepsy and as a result was committed and died in Bexley Mental Institution.
