A former neighbour of the Baglin family, writing to my aunt or a cousin sometime in the 1930s, describes Orlando Baglin, Sr. as being a "Johnny Bull" from England, who worked hard and was respected by his fellow employees at the Hayes Factory (a waking plant) where he was a supervisor in the spoke making division until he was critically injured by falling lumber. At the end of the letter, the writer --"...your friend Mr. Murphey"-- said, "...during those years we pronounced the name, "Bagle the Berthels were called "Battle" and the Schloeders were called "Slaters."
