Albert CHAPPELL was born on 10 April 1874 in Bath, Somerset. He died about 1948 at the age of 74 in Swindon, Wiltshire. Albert was born at No 3 Brook Place Bath in 1873. The family lived at No. 2 Brook place in 1881 and were still there in 1891 when the census was recorded. He was, at that time, listed as 16 years of age and working as a grocer's assistant. He was later trained as a tailor and worked at Landsdown Street, Bath when he was first married. As an adult he contracted polio which left deficiencies in both legs. In his later years h e was employed as a Bath Chair Attendant at the Pump Room/Waters. Parents: Edwin CHAPPELL and Harriet OATEN.

Albert CHAPPELL was christened about 1915 in Rumbolds Whyke, Chichester. He was born on 11 February 1915. He died about 1946 at the age of 31. Albert was born with Downs Syndrome and died as a bachelor in his 30's. Parents: Arthur CHAPPELL and Elizabeth Florence CLARK.

Alice Annie CHAPPELL was born on 22 June 1899 in Austrailia. She died on 8 December 1911 at the age of 12. Parents: Edwin Oaten CHAPPELL and Susan HOWARD.

Alice Mary CHAPPELL was born on 6 May 1876 in Bath, Somerset. She died on 30 April 1878 at the age of 1 in Bath, Somerset. Parents: Edwin CHAPPELL and Harriet OATEN.

Ann CHAPPELL was born about 1856. She was christened on 14 December 1856 in Sherston Magna, Wilts. Parents: Abia CHAPPELL and Elizabeth SHEARWOOD.

Annie CHAPPELL was born in 1889 in Bath, Somerset. Parents: Elizabeth Ada CHAPPELL.

Arthur CHAPPELL was born on 11 September 1878 in Bath, Somerset. Arthur Chappell was born as the last male into the family of Edwin and Harriet Chappell. He was 12 years of age in 1891 when the family were living at 2 Brook Place, Bath. He grew up in the Bath area. He married Elizabeth Florence Clark on Easter Bank Holiday Monday in 1900. After his marriage to Elizabeth Clark, he established a home in a small village (South Stoke) near Arundel and worked as a caretaker at a big house near the church. Arthur and his young wife Elizabeth had six sons. During World War I he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps as a stretcher bearer. He was not a young man at this stage and it would have been a worry for h is wife to have a family of six children with her husband in such danger. He survived but the family structure was to alter some few years later.

Elizabeth died in 1920, Arthur following this event, married a Louisa Pattenden. They had about 26 years of marriage then Louisa passed away at Arundel in 1947.

Arthur next married Rose Clark and went to live with his sister Elizabeth Ada to care for her in her old age. His bride was Rose Clark, his first wife's sister. Rose and Arthur lived in Bath and it was here that she died in 1957 but was buried at Brighton with her spinster sister Edith. Parents: Edwin CHAPPELL and Harriet OATEN.

Arthur CHAPPELL was born on 5 February 1901. He was christened on 21 July 1901 in St. Paul's Church, Chichester. He died on 30 December 1991 at the age of 90 in Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester. Arthur lived at The Firs, Otterborne, Hants (1991 near. Winchester, Hants). Arthur was with the Royal Army Ordinance Corps and retired holding the rank of Major. His first wife (divorced) Kathleen was a music teacher and from this union there was a son and a daughter. Arthur lived with his aunts Ada and Minnie at Bath for a number of years. This family add the 'e' to their surname. On Dec 30, 1991 in the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Major Arthur Chappelle died.

My grandfather Edwin Chappell Jnr was a slender build as was my father and his siblings. The family always seemed to have great vegetable gardens, loved fishing, ate well as a result and drank little alcohol".

Edwin Oaten CHAPPELL was born on 2 June 1861 in Walcot, Bath, Somerset. In 1881 he was in Somerset, England; Occupation: French Polisher.¹⁰ He immigrated in 1889 to Austrailia. Edwin was buried in 1920 in Rockhampton cemetery. He died on 2 June 1920 at the age of 59 in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. He was in French Polisher, Piano Tuner and at one time a miner for gold in Austral. Edwin had golden colour hair, possibly bright blue eyes with a fair and freckled skin complexion.

Eliza CHAPPELL was born about 1852. She was christened on 29 November 1852 in Sherston Magna, Wilts. Parents: Abia CHAPPELL and Elizabeth SHEARWOOD.

Elizabeth Ada CHAPPELL was born on 26 May 1872 in Bath, Somerset. She died in 1952 at the age of 80 in Bath. Ada never married but she gave birth in 1899 to a daughter Annie when she was about 16 years of age. Annie was brought up believing that Ada was her elder sister. Ada's occupation was that of a cook but as she was always living at home on records I viewed, I do not know much of her employment. Ada remained living at home and caring for her parents and when Edwin Chappell Senior died he left his home in his will to Ada.

NOTE:- On the Oaten site it has that Ada married. This could be so but she did not live with her husband and Annie was raised to think that Ada was her sister.

An English relative recalled:-
"I can remember Great Aunt Ada very well (the photo of Harriet Chappell is exactly as I remember Aunt Ada), she must have looked like her mother. Aunt Ada always wore long black clothes, walked with a stick, a l ways in the gutter not on the pavement. she said that the traffic would never hit her. She was a very jolly lady as I remember her. We spent two summer holidays in Bath with them just after the war."
